Craig Slivka
Biography
Craig Slivka received a BA in Theater from the University of Rhode Island in 1991. Upon coming back to New York, he appeared in numerous Cabaret showcases and competitions, including Paulson’s Super Sunday Search and Downstairs at the Trocadero.
From 1989 to 1993, Craig oversaw all set, set pieces, properties and costumes for the Swan Theater in Plainedge. He then became the first Children’s Theater Administrator at Brentwood Cultural Center, and then Publicity Director for the Purple Cow Playhouse.
During this time he stage-managed a variety of productions, including Annie Warbucks
(Purple Cow Playhouse); Same Time Next Year; Frankenstein; and the Snow Queen (Swann Theater). He also supervised building, painting and props for Barefoot in the-Park; Prisoner of Second Avenue; Little Shop of Horrors (Theater at Plainedge Swann); and Champagne Complex (Arena Players).
Craig then began to focus on producing in New York where he found success with productions as Swing Fever at the Producers Club; Tonight’s the Night! At Theater 22 and Straight to the Ace at the Chelsea Playhouse, Homefront Theatre, and at The Frederick Lowe Room.
Due to the “Disneyfication” of Theatre he decided to turn to his other love; film. He began to turn certain plays he wrote into screenplays. He has a variety of projects in different phases of writing, but when he found Druid’s Dream it screamed “finish writing me first!” As a screenwriter it has been a journey both in style and content. Craig has come to realize that he has a nose for a commercial story done with artistic integrity. He finds walking that fine line between the two worlds sometimes difficult but always worth the journey.
He found Meg Belviso through a common friend and it has been a wonderful union of both our strengths ever since. Meg received a BA from Smith College and an MFA in Screenwriting from Columbia University. She began working in children’s publishing at G.P. Putnam’s Sons. In 1998 she served as the Managing Editor for Sing!, a monthly newsletter for musical theatre performers.
Currently she is an editor at Angels on Earth, a national, bi-monthly magazine published by Guideposts and winner of several FOLIO awards. She is the author of Sophie on the Moon, produced by Joria Productions in NYC, and co-wrote the book to The Frog princess: A Hoperetta, with-Brian Vinero, based on her original idea. She has contributed reviews and articles to a variety of national publications. She also wrote the book and lyrics to a musical adaptation of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, produced by Glass Slipper Productions in NYC.
Her fiction and non-fiction work, includes So Weird #5: Web Sight, published by Walt Disney; Bear Cub and Ponies, published by Grosset & Dunlap; Mimi’s Crest of Sincerity, published by Harper Festival; Malcolm in the Middle: Bad Luck Charm; Dexter’s Laboratory: Dr. Dee Dee & Dexter Hyde; Loonie Tunes Wacky Adventures; Tasmania! And Winx Club: Insider all published by Scholstic/20 Century Fox. Most recently she has written Dead Before Midnight, soon to be published by Cengage Publications.
Writing with Meg is very much a dualistic delight. It’s truly amazing because as she and Craig write together they are relaying thoughts, and ideas to the point that Meg is the yin to his yan. After discovering this aspect of our writing relationship they always find more surprises, details and gold nuggets that they both bring to the table to further their writing aspirations, dreams and realities. And finally they are positively thrilled and delighted to have place so high in the Cinema City Competition. They look forward to the different potential possibilities that can grow out of this.
